One of the most popular tourist destinations in Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu is located on the Brazilian side of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Iguaçu Falls. Lying on the triple frontier between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, it also has the Parque das Aves (Birds Park), the Itaipú Dam, and access to cheap shopping in the Paraguayan tax-free city of Ciudad del Este.
The word Iguaçu derives from the native Guaraní language, meaning “big water.” The spectacular falls are part of the natural frontier between Argentina and Brazil, and include 275 individual falls spread over a mile in both countries, with a maximum height of 260 feet. Its water flow can be three times that of the Niagara.
Starting as a small village, Foz grew thanks to the flow of tourists, the construction of the bridges to Paraguay and Argentina, and the work on the Itaipú Dam and Hydroelectric Plant. Some of the best hotels in Foz do Iguaçu are located along the road to the national park. Nonetheless, most Foz do Iguaçu hotels are located in and around the central area.

We underestimated the time needed in Foz do Iguaçu.
We underestimated the time needed in Foz do Iguaçu. We extended our stay by 1 night from 2 nights to 3 (moving to wonderful Hotel Sanma because With Foz do Iguaçu had no room available), but should probably have added 2 nights instead of only 1.
Count 0.5 days for Itaipu, 1 day for Iguaçu-falls Brazilian side, 1 day for Iguazu falls Argentinian side, 0.5 days for the wonderful, very instructive Parque das Aves, and 0.5 days for a quick hike through the 3 towns Foz (Bra) Ciudad del Este (Par) and Puerto Iguazu (Arg).
Make sure you travel with autorized means of transportation from one country to the other.

Forget Victoria and Niagara, this is the only one you need to see! But make sure you see both sides as they are different. The Brazilian side is beautiful, the Argentinian side is awesomely dramatic. One day is sufficient if you start at opening time then transfer by taxi to Argentina and stay in a hotel there at the end.

Because the hotel is in the national park, we had several hours in the morning of the Iguacu Falls to ourselves. So beautiful with the sun coming up. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Just a great experience!

Iguazu Falls - definitely worth visiting, but check tickets before you go as you might end up in a very long queue. Hotels offer to buy (not too big $$ difference). Birds park worth visiting as well as popping in to Argentina.

The Falls is a must see place to get a balanced impression of the magnificence of this natural wonder. Getting there is quite easy if you speak Portuguese/Spanish or are more adventurous, to take a local bus to and from the Falls and adjacent Bird Park - both excellent options with easy hiking trails. Uber and 99 are good options too or taxi - but be prepared for taxi drivers to drive up the price 400%.
There are a number of restaurants in the park where you can stop for a bite or to refresh. Toilets are adjacent to restaurants.
The trails are clearly marked and easy to navigate.

Foz do Iguaçu is a great city with lots of opportunities.
Foz do Iguaçu is a great city with lots of opportunities. Obviously the waterfalls is a must visit while staying in Foz. The transport there, you can take an Uber, but the Bus line 120 will take you the for just 5 reais. The Parque das Aves is also something I would recommend. For dining I would go to Bel Viale restaurant, great food to cheap prices!
I was planning to stay in a hostel but Selina Foz is more a hotel with some hostel rooms. It's more difficult as a backpacker to get to know other people. The beds were very nice, every bed has a curtain and personal bed light which is always a plus when sleeping in hostels. Eduardo, one of the people who work at the reception, is super friendly, always with a big smile and super helpful! He helped me out a lot with planning how to get to Foz d'Iguazu and Puerto d'Iguazu.
This is a great little hostel for sleeping if enjoying the sights during the day. We just needed a place to crash for the night and this hostel met that need. It is only a short walk to the Parque das Aves, Hélisul (helicopter ride), and the Foz do Iguaçu entrance. Also, from the main road, you can catch an Uber or the local bus. The hostel staff is very friendly and will answer all your questions and help you plan your stay - they were fantastic and very helpful!
I was dubious about staying in a hostel ( CLH- H stands for Hostel) but this place is more like a hotel. Clean, bright, good size room. Receptionist s are friendly, especially the blond long hair girl. There is a travel agency also provided good service. Near bus terminal, convenient for going to the fall, parks, shopping mall and even to the airport. Close to late night restaurants.
First and foremost, the staff! So accommodating and helpful. The room was spacious, the bed was massive, all facilities were great and the breakfast was extensive. The hotel is so conveniently located near the Rodoviaria and only a short bus ride to the bus terminal for onward connections to Iguaçu Falls and to cross the border into Argentina.
Super friendly staff. The big garden all around us was beautiful and the location near the falls was perfect. You can walk from the hotel to the entrance of Iguazu Falls. The hotel looked a bit older, but was well kept and very clean. I mean who can beat this price/quality ratio? If you want food, take an Uber into town or organize a taxi.
Everything! Classy, clean, great staff, smooth check in and check out, well-equipped mini-bar, well-aerated bathrooms, comfortable beds. It is strategically located less than 10minutes from the airport and few minutes from the Foz do Iguaçu. We were greeted with piano playing in the evening and the chocolate on arrival was a nice touch.
Staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast had too many cakes/sweets vs savory which is personally not my favorite. The rooms were very dated with tissue-paper-thin sheets. But the shower had good water pressure and got very hot.
Lots of mosquitoes (we killed 2 in our room) but not really the hotel’s fault we’re in the tropics
Cris and Vinícius are great people. They gave us many tips about Foz do Iguaçu and were very friendly. The place is great, very new and with everything you need. In Foz do Iguaçu is not possible to be close to everything, so this place is very close to Argentina and the Cataratas falls. But access to the other areas is very easy.
this hotel was a great 3 night stay the room was clean and the bed was medium soft . the pool was awesome and the breakfast was great with many options . the location was on a safe street with many resturants near by and across the street was a great Lebanese restaurant . we do recommend this hotel and the price is excellent!
Absolutely lovely Airbnb-style stay! Gloria was very kind and the beds were comfortable, we had warm showers, and great breakfast. Good wifi connection, near to the main bus terminal in Foz do Iguaçu and easy enough to get to central locations within the town :)
The location of the hotel is perfect, near you have many bars and restaurants, bus terminal station is only in 5 minutes walking distance.
The room was confortable and clean.
Breakfast is nice and very tasty.
Lina and Artur were absolutely fantastic - very friendly and super helpful. Thank you so much to them both for ensuring I had a great time in Foz do Iguaçu!
